American Board of Dermatology

Incorporated in 1932, the American Board of Dermatology seeks to elevate and maintain the standards of Dermatology. The non-profit organization would accomplish this interest by promoting excellence in practice through life-long certification. The organization helps establish and maintain high standards for post-doctoral training in the specialty. It both establishes requirements for training programs as well as participates in the accreditation of those programs.

The American Board of Dermatology is one of 24 medical specialty boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Through ABMS, the boards work together to establish common standards for physicians to achieve and maintain board certification. The boards were founded by their respective specialties to protect the public by assessing and certifying doctors who meet specific educational, training and professional requirements.
